PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: NIGHT CLUB AND CARLSBERG BRITVIC
Leading soft drinks manufacturer Carlsberg Britvic (formerly Britvic) conducted a major engagement exercise with its shift workers around the country in Autumn 2023, to hear more about their experiences and how to support them. They heard about the personal impact of shift work and that some of those who work at night felt forgotten about.
To tackle these issues, Carlsberg Britvic brought in Night Club to run a major intervention across their three manufacturing sites in Rugby, Leeds and Beckton. We delivered 50 engaging sessions of our Night Club MINI programme to 435 workers, providing practical insights and sleep science knowledge that gave staff the confidence to improve their own sleep.
The engagement rates were strong, and three-quarters of participants agreed that, by providing the Night Club offering, Carlsberg Britvic was demonstrating it had a positive interest in the health and wellbeing of its staff.
Carlsberg Britvic was serious about not just delivering sleep skills to staff but also about reflecting on its own role in improving support for its shift workers. So, we ran a highly productive workshop for its leadership team and wellbeing representatives, delivering feedback from the sessions so they could hear exactly what their staff wanted, and exploring new initiatives around catering and lighting, the implementation of which has since had a positive impact on staff’s health and wellbeing.
As a result of our intervention, sleep support has now embedded into the Carlsberg Britvic culture. They have since hosted a webinar to raise awareness about sleep and shift work for the organisation’s central teams, and have sought our help to induct a team of volunteer Sleep Champions, who have the tools and confidence to support their peers with issues around sleep.
“It’s so important for employers to think about their night shift workers in a different way; to speak to them
face-to-face, make them feel heard and like they are really part of the wider team.”
– Sarah Munday, EDI and Wellbeing Manager, Carlsberg Britvic
“The thing I think I’ll take away from this course is, I wasn’t very aware of the impact that light has on me.
But most of all it showed me that my employer really cares about my wellbeing.”
– Nick Wheeldon, Technical Operator (Canning), Carlsberg Britvic
